So What Can You Do?

• Contact your clergyperson and offer to help them bring your denomination’s perspective on sexuality to the parents and children in your congregation.

• Do your own online or library research to find materials that match the values of your religious tradition and bring them to the institution’s leaders and other parents.

• Encourage your religious institution to use medically accurate, faith-based sexuality education materials and get the discussion going! An easy first step could be to organize a parents’ workshop. You can start with something as simple as reviewing pamphlets and information together; see Appendix 2 or www.SexWiseParent.com for some ideas.

• Is there a member of your congregation comfortable with and knowledgeable of sexual issues? A physician, nurse, health teacher—even a pharmaceutical salesperson working with reproductive health might be able to blend medically accurate information with your faith’s perspective and lead the parents’ group.
